Double Ceiling Solution

This is an excellent ceiling soundproofing solution that will provide optimum levels of soundproofing for both airborne and impact noise. It involves the following steps:

  • take down the existing ceiling
  • insert 100mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the existing ceiling joists
  • fix hangers type C to the joists
  • insert 2×2 batons through the hangers
  • add a layer of 50mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the batons
  • attach resilient bars to the baton
  • fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the resilient bars
  • seal all plasterboard joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

Combined Ceiling Solution

This solution is perfect for the times when taking the existing ceiling down is not viable or desired, and it provides a very good level of noise reduction in impact as well as airborne noise. It involves the following steps:

  • locate the existing ceiling joists
  • fix hangers type C to the joists
  • insert 2×2 batons through the hangers
  • add a layer of 50mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the batons
  • attach resilient bars to the baton
  • fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the resilient bars
  • seal all plasterboard joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

Hangers Type C Solution

This solution is very good at reducing both impact and airborne noise and it is the perfect option when wanting to keep the existing ceiling and minimise the height loss. Total height loss 7cm.

  • locate the existing ceiling joists
  • fix hangers type C to the joists
  • insert 2×2 batons through the hangers
  • add a layer of 50mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the batons
  • fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the batons
  • seal all plasterboard joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

18+ db reduction in airborne noise
17 db reduction in impact noise

Resilient Bars Solution

This is a solution that can be used when space is at a premium, and the height of the ceiling cannot be dropped by much more. Total height loss 3cm.

  • take down the existing ceiling
  • insert 100mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the existing ceiling joists
  • attach resilient bars to the existing joists
  • fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the resilient bars
  • seal all plasterboard joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

16 + db reduction in airborne noise
15 db reduction in impact noise

Independent Ceiling Solution

This has proved to be one of the best solutions for both airborne and impact noise. Total height loss 17cm.

  • build a frame around the existing walls using 2×4 batons
  • insert 100mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60)between the new joists
  • fix new joists to the frame using 2×4 batons
  • attach resilient bars to the new joists
  • fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the resilient bars
  • seal all plasterboard joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

24+ db reduction in airborne noise
25+ db reduction in impact noise

Double ceiling with Genie clips solution

This is an excellent ceiling soundproofing solution that will provide optimum levels of soundproofing for both airborne and impact noise. It involves the following steps:

  • Take down and dispose of the existing ceiling
  • Insert 100mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the existing ceiling joists
  • Fix Genie clips to the joists
  • Insert furring channels through the genie clips
  • Add a layer of 50mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the channels
  • Fix 15mm dB board to the channels
  • Seal all dB boards joints with acoustic mastic
  • Attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • Plaster finish to the soundproofed area

Genie Clips LB3 ceiling Solution

  • Remove and dispose of the existing ceiling
  • Insert 100mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the existing ceiling joists
  • Fix LB3 genie clips to the joists
  • Attach furrings to the Genie clips
  • Fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the furrings
  • Seal all plasterboard joints and edges with acoustic mastic
  • Attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • Plaster finish to the soundproofed area
